"Do I even need a dialogue doctor?"

The Doctor sat behind his desk, set his pen down and looked up at the author. "That depends," he said, smiling. "Do you write fiction?"

"I do."

"You enjoy creating plots?"

"Sure."

"Using description? Creating settings?"

"Of course."

"How about characters?" he said, folding his hands in front of him. "Would you like to create characters your readers will fall in love with and remember long after they finish your story?"

"Absolutely. Don't we all?"

The Doctor laughed. "You would think so, wouldn't you?" he asked. "Yet many writers continue to struggle with dialogue, creating clunky sentences and confusing tags, producing poor punctuation and worst of all..." He paused, shaking his head in sad recollection. "Info-dumping on the reader through endless monologues."

"No!"

"It's true. I've seen it all in my line of work, but more importantly, I've corrected potentially fatal mistakes just like these. And I'd love to fix yours."

"I believe it. But what genres do you edit? What about—"

"Everything," the Doctor said, waving his hand. "Romance, Young Adult, Fantasy, Westerns, Children's books, Science Fiction, Action and Adventure, Thrillers, Short Stories, Literature..." He paused, searching his mind. "Well, almost everything. I'm not really a fan of Erotica or Occult stuff, truth be told."

"Manuscript formats?"

"Whatever you send, I'll touch it up and send it back in the same format. Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, Google Docs, Text files. Heck, I'll even edit your PDFs. But for the sake of Tracking Changes, I highly suggest Word, Pages or Docs."

"Sounds reasonable. I think I'm in. Anything else I need to know?"

"Like, my credentials, or..."

"Yeah. Why should I trust you with my work?"

"Well, for starters, I'm a genuine, English-speaking American. Grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, no less! I also possess a degree in English Education and I've been teaching Creative Writing for the last 9 years. I love reading stories, and as Jack Kardiac I also love writing them. Yet as much as I enjoy reading and writing, I really love editing! There is great satisfaction in taking someone's text and polishing it to a sleek, fine shine. Trust me."
